The Rising Roots Community Garden Program is run by the Mississippi Delta Nature and Learning Center (MDNLC) and funded in part through AmeriCorps Mississippi. The goal of the Rising Roots Farm and Community Garden Program is to reduce food insecurity in our community and improve overall health outcomes and overall quality of life for all residents. This program is designed to address a persistent challenge in our region—access to fresh, locally produced, nutritious food that is available to all regardless of income level.
AmeriCorps members are individuals who commit to a term of national service and are at least 17 years of age. For the Rising Roots Community Garden Program:
Members serve approximately 20 hours per week for 11 months
Members receive a living stipend
Upon successful completion of their service term, members earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award
