Fields trips are a 2 hour experience full of hands learning experiences and fun in the Heart and Soul Children's Garden designed for open ended creative play. We have developed curriculum based on the Mississippi Science Standards. Trips are $5 per student with one free adult for every 10 students. We have the following standard lessons or we offer special seasonal lessons as well.
October 2025 Pumpkin Patch Trips: Learn about plant life cycles and the importance of protecting ecosystems in this fun hands on experience where every student goes home with a pumpkin they pick from the vine! Ages 3-12
March-June 2026 Wetland Exploration: Join us as we learn about the amazing creatures and plants that need wetlands to thrive. We'll talk about the life cycle of frogs and the importance of wetlands in water conservation then explore the wetland to see what we can find. Ages 3-15
Learn about the amazing world of animals as we explore their role in our ecosystem and the habitats and adaptations they have developed to survive. Participants will explore and search for evidence of animal superpowers around us, draw themselves with an animal superpower, and play Animal Superpower Charades. Ages 3-9
Pollinators are vital to our survival and have some incredible features! Participants will earn all about these helpful critters, go on a pollinator search to see them in action, and go home with their own watercolor butterfly or bee. Ages 3-9
How do plants and animals change throughout their life cycles and what do they need at different times in their life cycle? Learn about all different kinds of plants and animals and how they interact and need each other. Participants will search for plants and animals in various phases of their life cycle and depending on the time of year will either plant a seed, pick a pumpkin (October only), pick a bouquet (mid April-mid May), or catch tadpoles (mid March-end of May). Ages 3-12
How do birds fly? We'll learn more about the forces that make this possible and then experiment with those forces as we learn to make paper airplanes and have a flying contest to see how we did. Ages 8-15
Where does energy come from and are all forms or energy equally beneficial? Learn about renewable and non renewable resources and explore why we use some more than others. Then use common vegetables to make a circuit that powers a small clock. Ages 9-18
What the big deal around reducing, reusing, and recycling. Come explore why waste is a big problem today and some simple things we can do about. Then get participants creative juices flowing as we make mini robots from recycled materials. Ages 9-18
Take a deep dive into soil science and learn what makes our favorite fruits and vegetables thrive then plant your own seed to take home. Ages 9-18
A follow up to Growing Food 1.0 we'll dive deeper into soil science and the importance of minerals in our soil and in our food for improved health and wellbeing. Ages 9-18
