The Rising Roots Farm and Community Garden Program is run by the Mississippi Delta Nature and Learning Center (MDNLC) and funded in part through AmeriCorps Mississippi. The goal of the Rising Roots Farm and Community Garden Program is to reduce food insecurity in our community and improve overall health outcomes and quality of life for all residents. This program is designed to address a persistent challenge in our region—access to fresh, locally produced, nutritious food that is available to all regardless of income level.
This year we are growing at 4 community gardens in Washington County. We have monthly free workshops about different topics related to home food production to grow more and spend less.

Our community gardens are maintained and managed by local individuals who are serving as AmeriCorps members. These community minded individuals commit to serve for 11 months 20 hours per week.
Their service makes it possible for us to produce thousands of pounds of produce each year that is provided to individuals in need. This program is more than a food bank or another hand out, it is providing important knowledge that was once common about how to produce your own food, preserve it, and share it with others. This information is provided through monthly free workshops in our Grow More, Spend Less Series. We welcome volunteers who want to learn more and get involved in strengthening our local food systems.
