The earth keeps us alive from day to day and yet more and more we are spending less and less time outdoors. Kids are growing up without a knowledge of the natural world and sometimes a fear of being outdoors. At the Mississippi Delta Nature Center we're working to change that. Through programming in the Heart and Soul Children's Garden and engaging youth in local food production on the Rising Roots Youth Farm we are working with the rising generation to show them the wonders of nature and the importance of local food production.
The Heart and Soul Children's Garden and Boundless Adventures Obstacle Course is a 3 acre hands on play space for children ages 1-12. Play areas encourage creativity and exploration and are surrounded by gardens full of food, flowers, and herbs. Visit Tuesday-Saturday 10:00-4:00, book a field trip Tuesday-Friday 9:00-2:00, or rent a space for your next event.
Working with youth ages 14-16 we are growing food, flowers, and herbs to increase local food production in our community. We focus on growing food that is culturally relevenat as well as naturally occuring food sources. We use regenerative, and climate smart methods. Our goal is to provide young people with the skills and space to start their own market farms to increase the amount of locally grown produce in our community.
The outdoors is for everyone and everyone deserves to have access to the wonders of the natural world. We have a 1/2 mile and 1 mile trail that starts and ends at our parking lot located at 1950 Lisa Drive. Trails are open dawn to dusk everyday. Please be responsible when using the trails, follow the guideline for visitors posted at the entrance and use the garbage cans located along the trail.
